For more than a decade, the Friends of Shoal Harbour and their supporters have gathered each October to welcome back the Bufflehead duck to the migratory bird sanctuary. The ceremony consists of a few short speeches by members of the Friends of Shoal Harbour, Roberts Bay Residents and local dignitaries, followed by opportunities to search for and observe this cute black and white duck with spotting scopes and binoculars while in the presence of birding experts who can answer questions about migratory birds and the sanctuary.
